About this event

Great Rivers Chapter of Illinois Audubon will be sponsoring a program about Astronomy at the Riverlands Audubon Center on Monday, October 23rd starting at 6 p.m. It will be featuring a local astronomer, Mr. Eddie Agha, who will give an approximate 1-hour discussion followed by identification of stars, constellations and planets outside the center, weather permitting. Mr. Agha's passion for astronomy was planted at the young age of 7 after the Russians launched the first ever, successful satellite - Sputnik. Since his retirement from Boeing as an engineer in 2007, he has totally immersed himself in this hobby. An equal passion includes the education of children, especially in the sciences, which subsequently lead him to The Nature Institute in Godfrey. The Nature Institute Astronomy Association is an outcome of that alliance. It meets on the third Thursday of every month. Additionally Mr. Agha is involved in The Institute's summer camps and home-school camps. His community service also includes outreach for Hayner Library and participation in local events such as Earth Day, the Mississippi Earthtones Festival and guest astronomy appearances on WBGZ, Alton's local radio station 1570. He has memberships in the Astronomical League of America, Astronomical Society of Eastern Missouri and several on-line clubs such as Solar Activity, Solar Sidewalk Astronomers and others. Sierra members are coridially invited to participate in this program.
