Illinois officials are marking National Child Passenger Safety Week by offering dozens of car seat safety check events across the state. The most common cause of death for children age 1 to 13 are injuries from car crashes. Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White says most people aren’t sure on how to properly secure a car seat.

More than 50 safety checks will be available today (Saturday) in locations across Illinois, including several in the Riverbend and surrounding area. Illinois State Police Assistant Deputy Director David Byrd says properly securing a child isn’t just common sense, it’s also the law in Illinois.
