There are a few less restrictions on some businesses in the Metro East today, as Region 4 has moved from Tier 3 to Tier 2 of the Governor's COVID Mitigation plan. Region 4 includes Madison, St. Clair, Monroe, Bond, Clinton, Randolph, and Washington counties.
Although progress is being made in the metrics, the Illinois Department of Public Health Director is still urging everyone to continue following safety precautions. Dr. Ngozi Ezike says we all still need to wear a mask and socially distance. She notes that's especially important now that the UK variant of the virus has been found in Illinois.
