Add football to the list of semi-pro sports to call Alton home. The announcement came in a Friday afternoon media availability at Gordon Moore Park. The Central Illinois Cougars will play on one of the new turf fields at the 1st Mid-America soccer complex.
The team had been playing in towns like Carlinville and Springfield, according to Alton Park and Recreation Director Mike Haynes. He tells The Big Z this is full contact football with many local ties.

There will be additional bleachers added to the turf field at Gordon Moore Park, which has seen many upgrades to the sidewalks, concessions, and other amenities recently. The Cougars’ season starts in April and will run through early June.
