A groundbreaking ceremony will be held today to kick off the new fitness center expansion at Senior Services Plus in Alton. The 3pm ceremony will officially start the preparations for construction that will begin in June and is scheduled to be finished by the end of the year.
SSP Executive Director Jonathan Becker tells the Big Z the addition to the fitness center is part of the bigger plan for the organization to keep people healthy as they age and to support the Meals on Wheels program:

The $1.9-million expansion will including a nearly 10-thousand square foot building housing a walking track, new restrooms, and more space for additional fitness equipment and classes as well as expanded parking. Becker says SSP has already raised $1.4-million of the total cost and continues to accept donations.
