The Litchfield school district has cancelled classes for the rest of this week due to a flu outbreak. Athletic evnets were cancelled Tuesday night, and even more students were sent home sick on Wednesday prompting the decision late yesterday to close the district until next week.
The Purple Panthers were set to face off against the Piasa Birds in boys basketball on Tuesday, but the game was rescheduled for Thursday December 21st, due to concerns about spreading the illness. Debbie Poffinbarger, Superintendent for Litchfield schools, tells the Big Z the cancellation came from an abundance of caution.

Poffinbarger says they are keeping an active eye on the situation, but as of yesterday there were no plans to cancel any more events or classes.
