The Madison County State's Attorney's Office has filed charges against a Godfrey man after he ran his vehicle off the road in Alton late Tuesday night. Alton Police say 29 year old Dustin Kirk was behind the wheel of a car that crashed into Statehouse Circle, near OSF St. Anthony's Hospital, and was under the influence.
Kirk has been charged with driving under the influence, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and two traffic charges. Authorities allege Kirk was in possession of Hydrocodone at the time of the crash Tuesday night where he drove his car into the grassy area, then fled the scene on foot. Alton Police arrested him nearby a short time later without incident. His bond has been set at $15,000.
