A truck driver involved in a fatal crash on Interstate 55 last December in Madison County was charged Tuesday with reckless homicide. 54 year old Richard D. Jordan of Lewiston, Illinois, was allegedly using an electronic communication device at the time of the crash that involved multiple vehicles and killed one person.
The Madison County State's Attorney's office also filed charges yesterday against Jordan of aggravated use of an electronic communications device and two counts of reckless driving. The deceased motorist, 62 year old Pauline McKinney of Livingston, died a few days after the crash of her injuries. Her husband William was seriously injured in the crash and has filed a lawsuit in Madison County Court against Jordan who was driving for Davis Brothers Inc., at the time of the crash. Initial police reports indicated Jordan was reaching for a drink when he crashed into stopped traffic while approaching a construction zone on I-55 near Edwardsville. A total of 10 vehicles were involved and at least one other driver suffered serious injuries. The McKinney's vehicle was the fifth struck in the collision.
