Illinois State Police are investigating the death of a man who was reportedly Tasered by officers during an arrest attempt this week and later died. 41-year-old Jason A. Strahan of Benld was allegedly acting erratically and attempting to damage vehicles in Williamson on Monday night and then became combative toward police officers who used a Taser on him during the arrest.
Authorities say after the Taser was used, Strahan became unresponsive and medical personnel were called to the scene and took the suspect to a local hospital where he later died. The Madison County Sheriff’s Department contacted the Illinois State Police on Tuesday to take over the investigation into the arrest attempt and Strahan’s death. The ISP Division of Criminal Investigation is now leading the inquiry and will turn over the results of the investigation to the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office for its review once it is complete. An autopsy and toxicology testing will be part of the investigation.
