East Alton's mayor sees good things ahead for the village's business community. In particular, Joe Silkwood says things are looking up for the Wilshire Village shopping center, and is hopeful to build some momentum at Eastgate.
Wilshire is an interesting situation, according to Silkwood. In a recent appearance on The Big Z, he said the side with Shop N Save was recently purchased by a company from New York, while the other side of the road was sold recently to a buyer from California.

He says the owners of the Eastgate Plaza put a price tag of $1.5-million on the property a couple of years ago. Julia’s Banquet Center, Dollar General and Eastgate Cinema are the only remaining businesses at the center, but Silkwood feels confident the Route 3 corridor is showing energy, and believes there are opportunities that will happen in 2018.
