The news is not good for Illinois commuters that use the Jefferson Barracks Bridge. The span that takes I-255 into Missouri has been closed since Sunday night when a 6-foot-long crack was found on a weld in a critical portion of the bridge’s structure, closing the westbound lanes. Subsequent inspections have revealed additional cracks in other spots of the westbound bridge.
But MoDOT District Engineer Tom Blair says none are as severe as the initial crack.
So MoDOT does not have a timeframe for when the bridge may reopen. In the meantime, MoDOT District Engineer Tom Blair says they are making plans in the event this is an extended closure.

Until the bridge has reopened, MoDOT and IDOT are both asking motorists to use the marked detour of I-255 North to I-55 South. If possible, the agencies ask for consideration to be given to using MetroLink, mass transit, telecommuting and/or shifting commute times.
