Dan Leggett

Dan P. Leggett, 85, of Bethalto, passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2017, at Liberty Village in Maryville, IllinoisBorn July 11, 1932, in Ripley, TN, son of the late Ernest and Marjorie (Maynard) Leggett.Dan married Lola V. Sterling on May 28, 1954, at East Alton General Baptist Church. She survives.He is a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean conflict.For over 40 years, Dan worked for Owens Illinois Glass Co. He was a deacon at Meadowbrook First General Baptist for over 30 years and was a member of the Bethalto Masonic Lodge # 406. He enjoyed horseback riding, fishing, wood working, working on his house, and watching movies, which has been a hobby since his youth as he used to work at a movie theater as a boy, in Ripley, TN. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends.In addition to his wife, survivors include two children and their spouses, Vickie and Alge “Mac” McFarlin of Bethalto, Danny and Marian Leggett of Oxford, MS; four grandchildren, Sonja McFarlin, Shawn McFarlin, Nichole Varble, Trisha (Matt Odom) Leggett; three great grandchildren, Jonathan, Olivia, Eli; and one brother, Derwood Leggett of Ripley, TN.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Elgin, Shelton, Jolly, and Melvin Leggett, and one sister, Melba Jinc Houston.Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, October 20, 2017, at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.Service will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 21, 2017, at the funeral home with Pastor Charles West officiating.Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.Memorials may be made to The American Cancer Society or The American Heart Association.An online condolence and guest book may be found at www.eliaskallalandschaaf.com
