Virginia L Cairns, 92, of Brighton passed away at 6:40 am on Thurs Oct 19, 2017 at Alton Memorial Hospital.  She was born on Nov 10, 1924 in Alton, IL to Ernest & Vida (Watkins) Whitaker.She married Charles “Pete” Cairns on Dec 25, 1947 in Brighton. He passed away on May 20, 1993. She is survived by 2 sons & daughters in laws;  Charles & Theresa Cairns of Brighton and Rodger & Sandie Cairns of Brighton, 5 Grandchildren & 12 Great Grandchildren, brother; Vernon “Pete” Whitaker of Brighton and sister; Alice Thaxton of St Charles, MO.She was preceded in death by her husband, parents sisters; Irene Carrol, Betty Cotton and Evelyn Roderfeld, brothers; Estelle Whitaker, Wilbur “Bib” Whitaker, Bob Whitaker, Delbert Whitaker and Jack Whitaker. Visitation will be 10-11 am Mon Oct 23, 2017 at Targhetta & Wooldridge FH in Brighton Funeral Services will be private with Rev Don Letson officiating.       Burial will be in Brighton Cemetery Memorial may be made to the First Baptist Church in Brighton where she was a lifelong member.Online information and guestbook may be found at www.targhettaandwooldridge.com
