John G. Buescher, age 95, of Godfrey, passed away at 7:20 p.m. Saturday, October 21, 2017, at Integrity Nursing Home in Godfrey.
He was born November 22, 1921, in Alton, IL. He married Mildred Merkle on April 22, 1946 in Alton, IL. she precedes him in death. He then remarried Corinne (Burk-Schouten) Buescher on October 22, 1977 in Bethalto, IL. and she also precedes him in death.
John was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Bethalto. He worked for Standard Oil Company in Wood River as a welder for many years. John was a proud veteran of the U.S Navy in World War II where he was a welder on an aircraft carrier. He also enjoyed hunting, golfing, was an avid Cardinals fan, and loved spending time with family and friends sharing his stories.
He is survived by one son, Spencer (Stella) Buescher of Godfrey; one daughter-in-law Linda Buescher of MI; two step-sons Jim (Rita) Schouten of MO, and Tom (Charlotte) Schouten of Godfrey; five grandchildren Jennifer Potts, Patti (Mike) Light, Diana Buescher- Brooks (Jake), Kathryn Buescher and fiancé Mike Ciabattoni, and Steven Buescher and fiancé Dominique Davinroy; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandson.
In addition to his parents, and first and second wife. He is preceded in death by one son Gary Buescher, and a half-brother Richard (Dorothy) Roberts
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday October 24, 2017 at Valhalla Memorial Park with father Tom Liebler officiating. Alton VFW Post 1308 Ritual Team will be conducting military rights.
Burial will take place in Valhalla Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alton VFW Post 1308.
