John Scott “Scotty” Schneider, 52, passed away at 6:02 pm on Wednesday,
March 14, 2018, at Calhoun Nursing and Rehab Center after a life-long battle
with Prader-Willi syndrome.
He was born on June 24, 1965 in Jerseyville, IL, the son of Mary (McDonald)
Schneider and the late Donald L. Schneider.
John was a member of St. Norbert’s Catholic Church in Hardin. He was an avid
fisherman and baseball card collector. He loved to read and enjoyed playing
video games. Strangely, he loved both the St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago
Cubs (the latter of which he took great delight in razzing his brothers about).
He was a resident in the first Prader-Willi Syndrome Group Home in Beardstown,
Il (which his parents were instrumental in creating). In recent years he lived
at a Residential Options group home in Alton, Il.
He is survived by his mother, Mary Elizabeth Schneider; one sister, Mary Lee
Schneider; four brothers, William (June) Schneider, Michael Schneider, Donald
(Linda) Schneider, and Charles Schneider; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Donald L. Schneider; one brother-in-law,
John Beck; and two sisters-in-law, Randa Manassa Schneider and Kathleen Doyle-
Schneider.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Sunday, March 18, 2018 at Gress, Kallal and
Schaaf Funeral Home in Hardin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am Monday, March 19, 2018 at St.
Norbert’s Catholic Church in Brussels with Fr. Don Roberts celebrant.
Burial will follow at St. Norbert’s Cemetery in Hardin.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Prader-Willi Syndrome
