Leonard R. Claxton, age 87, of Alton, passed away Sunday, March 18, 2018, at Alton Rehabilitation and Nursing Care.
He was born February 22, 1931, in Vila Ridge, IL, the son of Ralph and Cleo (Webb) Claxton. He married Ruth Holman in 1952 and she preceded him in death in 2002.Leonard served in both the US Army and the Air Force. He was a member of Alton VFW #1308 and served on the Ritual Team. He had retired from Owens-Illinois Glassworks. He enjoyed painting and completing wood working projects.
He is survived by four children and their spouses, David and Jennifer Claxton, Cindy Tiemann and her husband, Richard Hornsey, Melodie and Gary Gaddy, and Rebecca Roberts; a brother, Joseph Claxton; 22 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.In addition to his wife, Ruth; he is preceded in death by his parents; three siblings; and a son, Brian Scott Claxton; and a great-granddaughter, Kiley Burford.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 22, 2018 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton.
