Lois Becker

Lois Becker, 86, passed away in the emergency room at St. Anthony’s Hospital on Saturday, July 7, 2018 with her family by her side.

She was born on November 18, 1931 in East Alton, IL the daughter of the late Edward and Virginia Dorsey of Dorsey.

She married Cecil “Bob” E. Becker at 12th St. Presbyterian Church on April 5, 1952 and were married for 66 years. He survives.

Lois was a high honor graduate of East Alton-Wood River High School in 1949 and she received the high honor of being voted “Harvest Queen” by the students at East Alton-Wood River High School her Senior year. She was employed by Olin Industries as a secretary to the Plant Department Manager and later worked for the Assistant Plant Manager. After raising her family, she worked for Edwards Recoil Reducers in Alton and as a secretary for Camp Electric. She was an avid Trap Shooter winning many State and National Championships and as a result was named to Sports Afield’s Magazine Ladies All American First team in 1971, 1972 and 1973. She also had the highest Handicap average in the nation for all women shooters in 1972. Lois enjoyed bowling, golfing and out shooting her husband while duck hunting. She was a loving, compassionate, selfless woman who always put family first. She will be loved and missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her husband she is survived by a daughter, Cheryl Roberts of Godfrey; brother, Mike Hradsky of Bloomingdale; sister, Michelle Douglas of Palmersville TN; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Nathan) Vandygriff of Piasa, Grant Becker of Cottage Hills, Nikki Roberts and Jason Roberts both of Godfrey; five great grandchildren, Bryson Roberts, Tyler and Kenzi Vandygriff, Ethan and Addyson Becker of East Alton.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by a son, Robert Becker of Brighton; beloved grandparents, Roy and Ida Darr of East Alton; a brother, Lyle Dorsey from Houston and a sister, Dianne from Tulsa.

Visitation will be from 4 pm until the time of the Memorial Service at 6 pm on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey.

Memorials may be made to the Parkinson Foundation.
