About this event

The Alton Area Tax Project is part of the Gateway EITC Community Coalition (GECC). GECC is a non-profit organization dedicated to preparing tax returns free of charge for low to moderate income families. We assist eligible individuals to receive tax credits and refunds to raise their living standards.

What do we do? We prepare 2019 federal and state taxes (up to 6 states) for FREE; efile or mail, your choice. Our group of volunteers are certified IRS tax preparers. We service folks with an annual income of less than $56,000. We cannot do rental, farm, or business returns.

We are located at Lewis and Clark Community College in the nurses building room NUL203.

What to bring?
You will need a driver's license, valid state photo ID, or passport. You will need to have the social security cards for anyone on the return, all tax documents and if possible a copy of last year's return. Note: photo ID, social security cards and tax documents are required. If you would like direct debit or direct deposit you will need to bring your banking information. Banking information on a cancelled check or last year's return is acceptable.

LCCC has agreed to allow a few more tax sessions! We will be taking appointments to facilitate social distancing. No walk in returns will be completed.

Appointments will be taken on July 9, and 14 from 5:00p to 7:30p; and on July 11 from 10:00a to 12:30p.

In order to keep our volunteers and clients safe, the following procedures will be in place.

A forehead thermometer will be utilized to check for a fever.

Clients are restricted to two people in your group. Please find a sitter for children.

Clients must keep a six foot distance from other clients and volunteers.

Please bring a mask. Clients must wear a mask covering mouth and nose.

Please do not arrive more than five minutes before your scheduled appointment.

Please do not make a reservation if you believe you may have been exposed to COVID-19.
