Police in Bethalto arrested and charged an East Alton man after he was allegedly caught in the act of burglary earlier this week. 35-year-old Leland Scoggins of the 200 block of Bender in East Alton is charged with one count of burglary in Madison County Court.
Officers were called on Tuesday morning to the report of a possible burglary suspect in the area of Route 140 and South Prairie. The caller reported confronting the suspect who fled on foot north near the 500 block of Park Drive. A number of officers converged on the area and located Scoggins in the 100 block of Grace Street. Upon further investigation, police reportedly discovered more than $1,000 worth of stolen property. Scoggins was taken to the Madison County Jail and was formally charged on Wednesday and held in lieu of $40,000 bond.
