Alton Police have charged two men in the shooting the morning of May 2 that left one man dead and another injured. A large fight broke out in the 200 block of East Elm Street. 22-year-old DeAndre S. Brewster of Alton died of his injuries. According to information provided by Alton Police, this was not a random act of violence, as the two groups of people fighting were familiar with each other.
17-year-old Chance L. Singleton of Granite City is being charged as an adult with two counts of 1st Degree Murder, Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, Reckless Discharge of a Firearm, and Aggravated Unlawful Use of Weapons. His bond has been set at $2 million. 20-year-old Dasani T. Stewart of the 2800 block of Brown Street in Alton is charged with -Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, Reckless Discharge of a Firearm, and Aggravated Unlawful Use 0f Weapons. His bond was set at $500,000. Both men are in custody. The investigation continues, and Police Chief Marcos Pulido indicates more charges are possible.
