Wood River Police are going over the evidence in a car theft that ended nearly as quickly as it began Sunday night. At about 10:15pm, a woman reported someone got into her running vehicle at Moe's Corner gas station in the 800 block of Wood River Avenue and drove off. The suspect abandoned the vehicle in the same block, presumably after realizing there was a 4-year-old child in the vehicle.
Wood River Police Chief Brad Wells tells The Big Z the child was not injured in the brief ordeal.
A video from the gas station is in the process of being enhanced, and there may be more video available from other sources as well. A witness, described as a friend of the victim, tried to stop the suspect, scratching his face as he drove off. The suspect is described as a black male with short hair, late teens or early 20's, wearing dark colored pants and a tank top. Wells reminds you should never leave your car running and unattended.
