The suspect in a shooting incident that took place Tuesday night on the campus of Western Illinois University in Macomb has turned himself in. 18-year-old Kavion Poplous is charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery, and aggravated discharge of a firearm. Poplous allegedly shot another student during an argument in a dorm room in Thompson Hall, and then fled the scene.
The injured student was taken to a local hospital for treatment of unknown injuries then later transferred to another hospital. That student underwent surgery on Wednesday, but his condition is unknown. In a statement from the school, they say the shooting took place around 10:40pm Tuesday, and around the time of the incident a fire alarm was pulled, and students evacuated the building. Classes were cancelled Wednesday for WIU campuses in Macomb and in Moline, and at all extension locations, but are expected to resume on Thursday
