As the state hits a new daily high for coronavirus testing, the number of positive cases in the Riverbend and surrounding area continues its slow climb. According to statistics released by the Madison County Health Department for Thursday, 512 people have tested positive, up 7 from Wednesday, while 47 people have died, an addition of two.
271 people are logged as recovered, which is three more that the day before. A total of 4,343 people have been tested. Statewide, more than 29,000 specimens were run in the past day, with over 2,200 new cases logged. Illinois Department of Public Health Director Dr. Ngozi Ezike says testing is vital since so much is still unknown about the virus.
