Donald 'Don' 'Mac' E. McQuaid Sr

Donald 'Don' 'Mac' E. McQuaid Sr., 74, of New Douglas, IL, passed away at 5:30 a.m. Wed. Apr. 1, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family while under hospice care.

He was born Jan. 15, 1946 in Alton, IL to the late Roy & Mollie (Kerbs) McQuaid.

He and Jane Meadors were married Mar. 23, 1991 in Bowling Green, KY.  She survives in New Douglas.

In 1965 at the age of 19, Mac got a job with General Motors in St. Louis, MO.  When that plant was shut down in 1981, he transferred to Bowling Green, KY to the Corvette Plant.  He served 31 years and retired in 1996.  In fall of 1997 he moved back to IL with his wife and daughter.  Since his retirement he has owned horses, motorcycles and hotrods.  He leaves his beloved 1970 Chevy Nova Prostreet behind that he rebuilt from front to back.  Mac loved to watch cowboy movies, ride motorcycles and work on his hotrods.  He also loved his Boston Terriers, Daisy & Chopper.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter: Denice McQuaid of Greenville, IL; a son: Donald E. McQuaid Jr. of IL; a step-son: Chris Meadors of Bowling Green; a grandson: Zackary Meadors; and a brother: Jeff (Pam) McQuaid of South Roxana, IL.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, R.D. and Tim McQuaid.

Services are private due to the current COVID-19 crowd restrictions but the family will hold a public celebration of his life at a later date.
