Shirley King

Shirley Marleen King, 84, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 12:38 a.m. on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at Missouri Baptist Medical Center in St. Louis, Missouri.  She was born February 16, 1936 in Chicago, Illinois, a daughter of the late Fred and Loretta (Goff) Luebbert.  She married Robert E. King on April 17, 1994 and he passed away on April 11, 1996.  She had worked at the Granite City Elks Lodge with many years of dedicated service as a waitress and bookkeeper.  She was very talented working with flowers and enjoyed her years working with Champion’s in Granite City as a floral designer and event planner.  She was a faithful member of Hope Lutheran Church in Granite City and was known for baking and cooking.  She cherished her grandchildren and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends.  She is survived by five children and their spouses, Cindy French, Rodney and Margaret French, Fredrick and Tina French, Jeffrey and Cynthia French and Cheryl and Ricky Brown, all of Granite City; twenty grandchildren; many great grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Linda Luebbert of Collinsville; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Sandy Cook of Granite City and Sharon and Russell Gibson of Granite City; several nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.  In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Richard Willard Joseph French and a brother-in-law, Harry Cook.  In celebration of her life, a visitation will be at Hope Lutheran Church, 3715 Wabash in Granite City on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Alan Beuster officiating.  Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.  Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.  Irwin Chapel of Granite City in charge of arrangements.  www.irwinchapel.com
