Bethalto Police believe they know who stole about 80 copper vases from Rose Lawn Cemetery recently. An investigation began February 23 after the discovery of the thefts. Charged with Theft over $500 is 52-year-old Thomas C. Williams, last known to be residing in the East Alton – Wood River area.
Williams is not currently in custody. The vases were taken from the south side of the Island of Memories Columbarium. They collectively had a scrap value of less than $50 but the retail cost to replace them is over $4000. Normally the families of the deceased would have to cover the cost, but the owners of Rose Lawn stepped to replace them. If you know where Williams may be, you are asked to contact the Bethalto Police Department on Facebook or call 618-377-5266.
