The SIUE Successful Communities Collaborative is partnering with Alton to place students with projects identified by the city's Community Development Coordinator that will in theory benefit all parties. The students get real-world experience, and the city reaps the rewards of their work, according to SIUE Associate Professor Connie Frey Spurlock.

She tells The Big Z Projects may include engineering, urban design, planning, cost-benefit analysis, economic development, legal and policy analysis, community engagement, and public relations campaigns, for example.

The collaborative is a yearlong partnership between SIUE and a regional community. The community partner identifies sustainability and livability projects that would benefit from SIUE expertise.
