An Alton man is dead and charges are pending against a 17-year-old in a fatal crash over the weekend. According to the Illinois State Police, 20-year-old Deon R. Miller Jr. was thrown from a Jeep that crashed about a half-mile south of Illinois Route 140 on northbound Illinois Route 159 at 2:25am Sunday.
The Jeep was driven by a 17-year-old female from East Alton, who is not being identified because of her age. According to the report, the Jeep was negotiating a slight curve on the roadway and departed the roadway to the right. The driver over-corrected, crossed the both lanes of travel and departed the road to the left, striking the ditch and overturned. Miller was ejected from the Jeep, and later pronounced dead by the Madison County Coroner. A 21-year-old Alton female was transported by Arch Helicopter to a St Louis area hospital with serious injuries. The driver and two other passengers were transported by ambulance to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.
