An Alton man convicted of stabbing another man last November has been sentenced to 41 years in prison. 31-year-old Brian Edelen apparently killed 41-year-old John Jackson because Jackson answered the cell phone of Edelen’s girlfriend. Jackson was found lying in the 3400 block of Bolivar, in the Milton area of Alton, after Edelen stabbed him multiple times.
Edelen fled the scene and eluded capture for more than two weeks after the incident but was eventually taken into custody in Bunker Hill by U.S. Marshals. During the sentencing hearing, prosecutors presented video and audio evidence showing Edelen bragging about the crime to other prisoners. Edelen was represented in court by the Madison County Public Defender’s Office and plans an appeal. He was eligible for 60 years in jail but was sentenced to 41 years and must serve the full term.
