The Alton Police union helped out more than 50 families in Alton over the weekend with a holiday food basket. Members of the Police Benevolent and Protective Association Alton Unit 14 ordered 55 food baskets through Schwegel's Market and donated them on Saturday.

PB&PA 14 President Andrew Pierson tells the Big Z the union raises money at the annual Policeman's Ball in the spring which supports a number of charitable efforts:

The food baskets included a ham, milk, eggs, canned goods, and boxed food items for a large family dinner.
