Members of the Alton Education Association have "overwhelmingly" rejected a new contract offer. At issue is salaries and step movement. According to information provided by the union, AEA members have authorized the Association to file a Notice of Intent to Strike.
The union's Jason Chapman tells The Big Z terms of what was called the district's last, best, and final offer did not please the majority of the membership.

He says they hope to get back to the negotiating table. Certified and non-certified employees have been working without a contract for the entire year, and Chapman says they could go out on strike in mid-April if nothing changes.
The vote took place late Monday afternoon and the Big Z has left a message for school district administration for comment.
