The Alton Public Works Department is preparing to spend $206,000 an asphalt patcher. The Alton City Council Committee of the Whole gave preliminary approval to the purchase at its Monday meeting. The equipment will actually make the department more efficient, according to department Director Bob Barnhart.
He tells The Big Z the turn around for the piece to pay for itself is fairly quick.

There is a portion of the Public Works budget for renewal and replacement, according to Barnhart, who says the loans payments for previous purchases have been paid off, so they are looking at pushing the first payments for this purchase off until the 2018-2019 budget. The full council will consider the purchase tomorrow night.
