A Bethalto nursing home will be closing next month, and the owner says it's because the state is late with its Medicaid payments. Bethalto Care Center on Prairie Street missed its last payroll, and Linda Daniels says that caused most of her staff to walk off of the job. Residents' families are being advised to find other living arrangements as soon as possible.
Daniels says she has given the state the required 30-day notice that it will be closing, which will be August 21. Melodie Smith's mother lives at the facility, and she tells The Big Z she found out about the situation on Monday

Daniels says she founded the facility in 1975, is in good standing with the government, and has always taken a lot of Medicaid payments.
