Several small ceremonies were held on Monday to mark the Veterans Day holiday. The Alton VFW hosted its annual event, and there were other gatherings in East Alton and Wood River that were planned for outside but were moved indoors due to the weather. There was a breakfast for veterans at the Alton Wood River Sportsman Club and at Senior Services Plus.
The free breakfast at the Sportsman Club was sponsored by several area businesses. East Alton’s Village Hall was packed with participants for its event, while the Wood River Roundhouse was the back up location for Wood River’s event that was moved indoors. Edwardsville was forced to cancel its Veterans Day parade due to the weather.
