The annual Salvation Army Children's Day is today on the Big Z. For decades, the radio station has set aside six hours of programming to highlight the work of the Salvation Army in Alton and appeal to listeners for donations to the Red Kettle Campaign. This year, however, is a little different.
The Big Z General Manager Nick Darr says he, members of the Big Z staff, and local dignitaries will be at the McDonald's on Broadway in Alton ringing bells from 6am-noon.

The Children's Day broadcast on The Big Z will also feature reports from the scene from 6am until Noon, and you can still call in a pledge during that time as you have been able to do in years past. Salvation Army guests will be in studio from 9am until Noon to highlight the work of the organization.
If you'd like to volunteer to ring bells at any time during the season, call 465-7764.
