The Alton City Council will consider allowing the sale of some alcohol during Alton River Dragon’s baseball games at Gordon Moore Park. The Prospect League baseball team will begin play this summer at Lloyd Hopkins Field, and sales of beer and wine are being proposed. The Committee of the Whole meets on Monday evening, the full council meets Wednesday evening.
E&G Baseball, Alton, Inc., is requesting the sale which must be approved by the council along with the Alton Parks and Recreation Commission. To be approved, the city would have to create a special class P-2 liquor license. Alcohol sales are not unusual at Gordon Moore and have taken place at concession stands in the past and are also allowed at the Spencer T. Olin Golf Course. This request would allow the sale during games and other baseball activities involving the River Dragons.
