An anonymous donor dropped a big check into the account of SIUE's East St. Louis Charter High School. An East St. Louis native donated 3.5 million dollars to the school to enhance its STEM Center and STEM-related learning. STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The school opened in 2011 with donated funds. Chief Diversity Officer Vanessa Brown, who helped facilitate the donation, said the donor wanted to provide resources to children in East St. Louis and give back to his hometown.
