A fire engine from the Cottage Hills Fire Protection District was involved in a traffic accident while responding to a house fire in Bethalto Tuesday. No firefighters were injured, but the driver of the other vehicle suffered non life-threatening injuries in the crash at the intersection of Routes 140 and 111.
The driver of the vehicle that hit the fire truck is facing several charges in connection with the accident but has not been named. The house fire took place at a home at the corner of North Prairie and Williams Street in Bethalto and was called in by a passing motorist just before 7am Thursday. Quick work by fire crews from Bethalto, East Alton, Meadowbrook and Rosewood Heights resulted in the home being saved. No one was injured and no was home at the time. The cause remains under investigation. Illinois State Police assisted Bethalto Police with traffic control during both events.
