The parents of a six-year-old Jerseyville boy that died of starvation about a year ago have pleaded guilty to a single count of First Degree Murder. Michael and Georgena Roberts of the 200 block of Ferguson Street, both 43-years-old, entered their pleas November 1. The pair allegedly starved the boy to death.
The incident came to light when Jerseyville Police responded to Jersey Community Hospital in reference to a deceased, malnourished 6-year-old. An investigation revealed the 6-year-old and a 7-year-old in the home were deprived of food by the father and step-mother as a form of punishment. A total of 6 children lived at the home - three siblings and two step-siblings. Sentencing has been scheduled for December 19th. First Degree Murder carries a maximum sentence of 60 years in prison.
