If you have household hazardous waste around the house or in the garage, there is an event coming up later this week just for you. Madison County is hosting a free drop off on the SIU-Edwardsville campus on Halloween.
Things that will be accepted include oil-based paints, pesticides and herbicides, automotive fluids, and fluorescent lights. Madison County Planning and Development Spokesperson Andi Yancy tells the Big Z this is a socially distanced event.

They will not accept latex paints, used tires, smoke detectors, business, or biohazard waste. An appointment is required in order to avoid long waits and the collection is open to all Illinois residents with home-based waste. To register, call 618-296-6647. The collection point will be on the SIU-Edwardsville campus, at parking lot P-8 on North Research Drive on Saturday October 31 from 7am to 3pm.
