A 45-year-old homeless man was found dead in Alton Monday morning. The man, whose last known address is in Alton, has not yet been publicly identified pending the notification of family members. Police say there does not appear to be any indication of foul play.
The call came into Alton Police at about 10:45am Monday when the man's body was discovered by the train tracks behind Bluff City Outdoors in the 2,800 block of Broadway. A police spokesperson says there is apparently a group of homeless people that occasionally congregate there. A cause of death and formal identification will be made by the Madison County Coroner's office, possibly as early as today (Tuesday).
