Alton Police are looking for help and issuing a warning after lights at the Liberty Bank Alton Amphitheater were vandalized and stolen earlier this week. The vandals caused nearly $6,000 in damage after breaking around 50 light fixtures and stealing some of the bulbs.
Police believe the thefts took place sometime overnight from Monday to Tuesday while the park was closed. This follows an incident earlier in May when eight fixtures were damaged during an overnight period from May 9 to May 10. Alton Police issued a statement yesterday saying anyone in the park after hours without prior approval of the City of Alton will be arrested. The park is open from sunrise to sunset, unless there are specific events scheduled at the amphitheater or patrons are visiting the Argosy Casino. A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those involved. Anyone with information should contact Alton Police at 463-3505 or send a tip through the Alton Police Facebook or Twitter pages.
