The number of positive cases of COVID 19 in Madison County continues to remain high but are down from Wednesday’s numbers. The Madison County Health Department reported Thursday 279 new positive or probable cases and 13 additional deaths. So far, 217 people in Madison County have died as a result of COVID-19 complications.
The high case numbers on Thursday came from Collinsville, Granite City, Alton, Edwardsville, and Troy. The 7-day positivity rate for Madison County is up a bit to just over 21%, well above the state goal of 8%. Also, on Thursday, Macoupin County reported 81 new cases and Calhoun County reported 10 new cases. There was no report from Jersey County health officials. All local and state health officials say people should stay home as much as possible, avoid large gatherings, wear a mask anytime you are away from home and in public, and wash your hands frequently.
