A Jerseyville couple facing charges of first degree murder in the starvation death of a 6-year-old could go to trial as soon as March. Pre-trial hearings for 42 year olds Georgena Roberts and Michael Roberts are set for March 21 and 22, respectively. Earlier this week, Georgena Roberts was ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation before her next appearance.
Also this week, Michael Roberts entered a not-guilty plea to charges of first-degree murder and child abuse. The father and step-mother are charged in the death of 6 year old Liam Roberts who weighed just 17 pounds when police were called to Jersey Community Hospital on November 3 where he died. A 7-year-old boy at the home was also hospitalized for malnourishment, and several other children were removed from the residence.
