The Illinois Department of Public Health is reminding families to make sure everyone is up to date on recommended vaccines. Agency spokesman Melaney Arnold says it's important that babies and children receive the proper doses on time to provide the best protection against diseases like mumps, measles, polio, and chicken pox
She says adults need to get their shots as well, especially their annual flu shot.

Arnold also stresses that getting immunized isn't just about protecting yourself. It's also about preventing the spread of disease, especially to those too young to be vaccinated and to those with compromised immune systems.
