A roundtable discussion to address how the opioid crisis is ravaging the nation, and in particular Southern Illinois, is being held today in Edwardsville. The crisis will be discussed from a variety of perspectives, including that of lawmakers, public health agencies, and education and law enforcement professionals.

Part of the event, says Hargan, is the rollout of a new report by the Surgeon General, and information that they think will help in the response to opioid overdoses. 2017 was the second-deadliest year for drug-overdose deaths in Madison County, coming up just short of the record of 91 recorded in 2014.
