Law enforcement agencies at over 160 jurisdictions nationwide will receive over $830,000 in federal grants to strengthen security at schools. Those selected will receive the grants through a Department of Justice School Violence Prevention Program initiative that Southern Illinois Congressman Mike Bost introduced and had signed into law in 2018:

Schools in Bost’s southern Illinois district affected were East St. Louis School District #189 who will use their $239,892 grant for metal detectors and locks, as well as staff training and communications planning. Jefferson County schools that will get $499,829 along with Sesser-Valier Community Unit School District #196, who received $90,285. Both schools will use the money to make safety enhancements in the classroom.
