Repairs to Summit Street in Alton necessitated by massive amounts of rain and the subsequent collapse of the brick street continue. It was just after Christmas 2015 when the rains washed away the sub-surface, causing a partial collapse.
Alton Public Works Director Bob Barnhart tells The Big Z crews have had to rethink how to attach pilings on the east side of the street in order to strengthen the area in preparation of the restoration of the street.

He says the completed project will improve stormwater management in the area and hopefully prevent backups on the back side of the wall.
