Local fire crews battled flames and the cold temperatures in two calls in Alton on Sunday. Firefighters were called out to a vacant home in the 1400 block of Fletcher Street just after midnight, and another just before noon a few blocks away on Hampton Street. No injuries were reported.
Both houses were unoccupied and neither had utilities hooked up. Fire Chief Bernie Sebold tells The Big Z while they are being investigated as suspicious, it is not known if they are connected.

The investigation into a pair of house fires near Olin Park at the end of December continue to be investigated, according to Sebold. He says a lot of legwork has gone into those investigations, and notes the Alton Police Department has some very good leads in those cases.
