Two people are dead after a semi truck heading in the wrong direction on the interstate struck a school bus last night just outside of Bloomington. The driver of the tractor-trailer and an adult passenger on the school bus are deceased, with one other adult being treated for serious injuries. None of the student injuries are considered life threatening.
The Illinois State Police reports the semi was traveling eastbound in the westbound lane of I-74 south of town and struck the bus head-on. The school bus was carrying 8 members of the JV girls basketball team from Normal West high school back to the school after a game in Champaign. 72 year old Charles Crabtree, a volunteer with the school from Normal, was on the bus and died of his injuries. Another coach on the bus is hospitalized. The driver of the tractor trailer, a 34 year old male from Iowa, was also killed, but has not been identified.
